Do you need an electrician to install a generator?

Installing larger generators, especially whole home generators designed to power multiple systems in a house during an electrical outage, requires a licensed electrician. Professional installation is necessary to avoid inadvertently voiding your warranty for the generator due to errors. What size generator do I need for my home?

On a monthly basis, depending on the current price for natural gas, the cost to run your emergency generator in exercise mode should only cost a few dollars per month. How loud is the generator?

Air-cooled generators emit a noise volume of approximately 66 decibels at a distance of around 20 feet. This means that you can carry on a typical conversation between a couple of people at normal speaking volume while standing beside an air-cooled generator that is running. Do I need to have my gas meter upgraded?

You may need to have your gas meter upgraded to accommodate a large whole-house generator. Part of having a generator installed by a DK master electrician is a site survey that includes a Gas Inventory Report. After recording the model of your present gas meter, an inventory will be taken of all gas-fueled appliances in your home. Typically, when a gas meter upgrade is required by the local gas company, the process is simple and only minimal cost is charged to the homeowner.

Do I need a building permit to install a generator in New Jersey?

A building permit will probably be required to install a generator at your New Jersey home. Our DK master electrician will coordinate with the building department for your municipality to determine the correct interpretation of the local building code for your particular jurisdiction. Often, our master electricians have already completed generator installations in the area and are therefore already familiar with your Building Inspector’s requirements.
We will obtain all necessary state and local permits as well as HOA approvals if needed. We will attend any variance meetings with your HOA, if necessary. How long will my new generator last?

The average lifespan of an emergency power generator is about 15 years operating in typical standby conditions. Like any other kind of machine, the generator will age and may need maintenance as it nears the end of its life expectancy.

I called DK for a slight flickering of my lights, and the occasional breaker getting thrown by multiple appliances. Figuring it just needed some rebalancing or maybe at most an extra circuit put in.I'm going to post what DK discovered from their invoice below so you can have an idea of what they encountered when they got to testing the wiring:"Split up one circuit currently powering 34 separate things on one circuit into multiple circuits so that the circuitry of the home is laid out closer to the current code standard. Currently there is one 20amp circuit powering the kitchen counter outlets, the dining room lights, the kitchen lights, the family room outlets andfireplace, the fridge, the microwave, the gas stove, the living room and bathroom lights, and the bathroom outlets."Barry and his teammate did a great job. So DK has done all the electrical work on my new home—removing the knob & tube, setting up proper GFI in the kitchen and bathrooms, custom under- and over-cabinet lighting, kitchen and bathroom lighting/fans, multiple ceiling fans and chandelier installations, smart dimming switches, setting up Ethernet ports in some rooms, special outlets for kitchen appliances and basement sump pump, installing two camera doorbells at the front and back doors, and even and emergency removal/fix on an old piece of wire in the basement that started smoking. Great service. Very hard to find a good pool electrician, but these guys know their stuff. Hooked up a fairly complicated set of pumps, filters, lights and water features in half a day. I can't speak highly enough about Brendan Kuchinka from DK Electrical Solutions. He came out to install a ceiling fan and was super professional, on-time, courteous and reliable. A week later, the fan was making some weird noises. So, Brendan came back out with his assistant Jarred. This time, they had to take the whole fan apart to discover that the electrical box that was originally installed in our home when it was built was barely screwed into the truss, hence causing the fan to be misaligned and making noise. To make it work correctly, he had to reinstall the electrical box correctly and then put the entire fan back together. We used Dk Electrical Solutions for a variety of projects including a chandelier lift, recessed lighting, and outdoor lighting. They were great to work with. They had good communication, were very professional, timely, and great workmanship. I was also very grateful for how well they cleaned up.

I had initially contacted them to replace a cutoff for our hot tub, and decided to have a few other items attended to. It was easy for me to arrange for a mutually agreeable appointment, the service personnel arrived on time, and the work was performed in a professional manner that met our expectations. Should the need arise in the future, we will certainly contact Dk Electrical Solutions again!

Jeff was on time, professional and great to talk to. He installed a bathroom exhaust fan/light. Glad i didn't attempt this job on My own, since the old fan had a 3" exhaust tube and the new prodyct i purchased had a 4". So jeff went to Lowes and bought the adapter and then installed it properly. Clean up was done promptly as well. I would highly reccomend DK Electrical Solutions to anybidy needing any type of electrical work or installations.

Jeff was great! I needed help with my mom's house to properly install her new electric dryer and also update many worn outlets. I'm not local and he spent time on the phone with me to walk through everything, explained all the work, helped me prioritize, and got all of the work done same day for a fair price. Overall a great experience!

Had an attic fan replaced. Technicians were very professional. Analyzed the problem, explained it to us and installed a replacement.Came when scheduled, were very neat and finished the jobs quickly.Would definitely use them again for future projects.

I was very happy with DK Electrical Solutions. Brendan and his helper came to my house and gave me a quote for the work I needed done and to my surprise Brendan and his helper were the guys that did the work! They replaced my panel, added a generator outlet and interlock kit, ran a homerun for my microwave, separated some circuits, repaired flying splices , replaced connections, secured loose junction boxes and rewired switches in three rooms. The guys did a great job and I couldnt be happier.

Highly recommend this company. From first call to final install I have no complaint. Responded to voicemail fast and set up appointment for a quote. Price was in the range I expected. The work was actually better than I expected. New panel fully and clearly labeled, conduit ran out of the way and right into corners, car charger in perfect location. As a diy guy that’s kinda thrifty (cheap) I’m extra thrilled about the whole experience. No buyers remorse here! Thanks Barry, Derek, great lady in the office and helpers whose names I can’t remember (sorry)!

From the initial appointment, Barry was a great representative of the company. He assessed my situation and was able to recommend a product that would fit my needs and be used for years to come.On the initial install day I was called first thing in the morning re:concerns about the wind and their inability to install. I appreciated this as I would not want anyone to be hurt installing lighting for my home (and I believe there was an actual tornado that night).The next week they came promptly 8 am and finished the install by 10:30. The team was very professional and respectful of my home. I’m so excited to finally have this outside lighting!!! If I have any other electrical needs, I will be contacting them first.

Jeff was the third electrician to look at two electric problems in my home.The first two could not find the problem. But Jeff was enthusiastic and took the time to identify and repair the problems.
